Centenary Baton
Posted 15 June 2014
The WI Centenary Baton made its way around the country as planned & we all had a great time celebrating one hundred years of the WI.
On Saturday 14 June seventeen members of Arnold WI, all wearing green sashes, walked from Arnold library to Thackeray's Lane park carrying the baton & distributing leaflets about our WI & hopefully encouraging others to join us.
The Baton was delivered to us by members from Mapperley WI & we took it to Woodthorpe WI, where we were greeted with drinks & cakes. We took a small detour on our way through Arnot Hill Park, where the Arnold Carnival was taking place, & were joined for a short while by the 'Maypole Good Time Band' who were appearing there on the day. They very kindly played "'Aint She Sweet" as they walked along beside us...

The Annual Meeting
Posted 29th April 2015
Our Annual meeting was held on Wednesday 25th March 2015 at the Concert Hall in Nottingham.
The meeting commences with a welcome from the Sheriff of Nottingham City Councillor Jackie Morris.. She told us that she had been a member of the W I in the past but that "Politics had taken over"
Here we celebrate all the things we have achieved in the past year & are entertained by guest speakers.
This year our National Chair, Janice Langley, came & gave an encouraging talk on the current state of the WI in Great Britain & in the afternoon we were entertained by TV personality, Ruth Goodman on the state of villages in earlier times. What would you miss if you went back in time 100 years - Electricity? Social media? The vote? It made for a lively discussion.
